Taa Dzong

Taa Dzong Fortress in Bhutan

Taa Dzong (Fortress)

Paro Taa Dzong is located about six kilometres away from the main Paro town and 500 feet from the Rinpung Dzong.

During the tenure of the 2nd Desi, after the Rinpung Dzong was successfully completed, the country was threatened by assaults from Tibet and India.  Therefore, to protect the Paro Rinpung Dzong from invaders, the Taa Dzong was built in the mid-17th century. The Third King ordered its renovation when it was about to collapse. Now it is more than 350 years old.
